Roof designs that incorporate skylights and solar tubes are not only environmentally friendly but they are sustainable and resilient. Techniques like skylights are part of a concept called green construction that allows daylight to minimize the need for indoor lighting as well as provide light during power failures. The resilient approach to roof construction involves nine strategies. Roofs must be durable, have redundancy, increased wind resistance, fire retardant, an energy efficient design, natural daylighting allowance, rooftop energy systems, rain water drainage, and evacuation paths. These techniques show the intersection between green and resilient by using both novel approaches and tested techniques.
